Michael Myers Tips for Halloween: The Game

An early-access first-look at Michael that reads the loadout screen aloud (3 Sep 2026), a launch-day “how to play Michael” video (4 Sep), IllFonic’s Multiplayer Overview and 14 July dev stream, and GameSpot’s launch tips. Demo numbers are marked as such.

Play the campaign first

IllFonic built the six-chapter story mode partly as a tutorial: it teaches Killer Sense, Shape Jump and the executions with checkpoints and no other player judging you. Several Steam posts and the GameSpot tips piece say the same. The story mode page has the chapter list.

Read your loadout

Every Michael loadout has two fixed traits, Shape Jump and Killer Sense, a starting weapon (kitchen knife, pickaxe, pitchfork, wood axe or hatchet), and three ability slots. Base picks are Blackout, Detection Pulse and Reality Tear; Shadow Strike is listed at Killer Level 20, with Evil Presence and Shape Mines also unlockable. The Michael Myers page has each one in a table. Skins do not change the kit as far as any recording shows.

Opening moves

  1. Find the power source and turn it off. Darkness is Shape Jump’s fuel. The early-access recording opens every match this way.
  2. Look for the yellow beams. Special Targets get a pillar of light on the map after a delay; they are worth far more points and killing them early also raises your Bloodthirst faster.
  3. Detection Pulse, then Shape Jump. Pulse marks Civilians and occupied buildings in a radius; jump toward the marks.

Stalk before you grab

A grab kill is not instant. You need at least Stalk 1 on the target (build it by focusing them in Killer Sense, the first-person view). Stalk 2 opens weapon executions; Stalk 3 marks them, shows their aura, and lets you exit Shape Jump right behind them. Finishers, per a 5 September Steam reply, need a fully stalked target that has not noticed you.

Blackout into Shape Jump

You cannot enter or exit Shape Jump in light or while watched. Civilians know this and cluster under streetlights. The answer in every recording is Blackout: it kills lights and flashlights, stalls a moving car, and briefly locks a door. Note that Blackout cannot be cast while you are already in Shape Jump, so cast it first, then jump. Cars fleeing down the street are the textbook target.

Reality Tear is your escape, not your opener

Reality Tear forces you into or out of Shape Jump regardless of light, sight or being downed. Its cooldown is long. The Civilian guides all say the same thing: a Michael who burns it early and gets caught with it down is the only Michael that gets detained.

Hide the bodies

Police only call the van after officers find evidence. Carrying bodies into closets and cars delays that, which keeps the easiest Civilian escape closed longer. You can hide in cars yourself.

Melee is yours to win

Michael wins one-on-one melee easily and gets tankier as Bloodthirst rises. What beats you is guns, groups with a Loomis or officer, and the police meter. Kill the cop who is investigating if you can; a Steam complaint on 5 September is precisely that respawning armed officers make late matches hard, so the mid-match is where you have to win.

What we do not know yet

Cooldown lengths, damage numbers, the full-game win threshold (the demo used 3,000 points) and the exact rules for which dead players return as Loomis have not been published. This guide is updated when IllFonic posts patch notes.
